Google Merchant Center Warnings and Account Suspensions

We help stores respond to Merchant Center account warnings and suspensions: identifying the policy issue, auditing the website and business information, fixing what’s wrong, and preparing a careful, honest review request. Google makes the final decision.

Why timing matters

A Warning Is the Best Time to Fix the Problem

Google can warn an account before suspending it, and during the warning period products may keep showing with limited visibility. Fixing everything in that window is far easier than recovering after a suspension.

Review requests are limited. Unsuccessful attempts can trigger a cool-down period that grows each time, so every request should follow real fixes, not hope.

What we check

What Reviewers Tend to Find

Common reasons for warnings and suspensions in Google’s documentation.

  • No clear return and refund policy, even when returns aren’t accepted
  • Missing legal business name, physical address, phone or email, or details that differ from the account
  • Placeholder text, broken links or unfinished pages on the store
  • Checkout that isn’t secure or doesn’t work end to end
  • Shipping, refund and privacy policies that aren’t linked or easy to find
  • Prices, availability or product details that don’t match the data source

What we will never do

  • Promise reinstatement or a review outcome
  • Suggest a new account to get around a suspension
  • Submit misleading business or identity information
  • Request reviews before the issues are fixed

How Merchant Center warnings and suspensions work

Google may warn an account about a policy issue before suspending it, usually with a 7- or 28-day warning period that includes one courtesy review. Egregious violations can lead to immediate suspension without warning. To recover, fix every issue on the website and in the account, complete any identity verification, then request a review. Google decides the outcome.

Warnings, suspensions and egregious violations

Google enforces its Shopping ads and listings policies using a combination of AI and human review. Actions range from disapproving individual listings and temporarily capping impressions for some flagged accounts, to suspending accounts for repeat or egregious violations.

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
WarningGoogle found an issue and set a timeframe (7 or 28 days) to fix it; products may keep showing with limited visibilityFix or remove violating products during the warning; the account is reviewed automatically at the end
SuspensionProducts can’t show until Google accepts a reviewFix everything, complete identity verification if requested, then request a review
Egregious violationSuspension without prior warningAppeal only if you’re certain the finding is wrong, and be thorough and accurate
Cool-downReview requests are temporarily disabled after unsuccessful attemptsUse the time to fix remaining issues; support can’t shorten it

Google’s guide to fixing warnings and suspensions notes that if you remove violating products during a warning, no review is needed; the account is reviewed automatically at the end of the period. For some misrepresentation categories, Google gives a warning at least seven days before suspension.

Misrepresentation and website requirements

Misrepresentation is among the most common suspension reasons Google lists, alongside missing return and refund policies and insufficient contact information. Google’s Merchant Center guidelines require the website to show visible contact information, a return and refund policy (stated clearly even if you don’t accept returns), a conventional payment method, a working and secure checkout, and a supported language.

Before a re-review, Google advises examining the website and account thoroughly for the accuracy and consistency of product details, business information, policies and contact information. In practice that means checking:

  • The legal business name, physical address, phone number and email, and that they match Merchant Center.
  • A contact form or social links in addition to direct contact details.
  • Shipping, refund and privacy policies linked and easy to find.
  • No placeholder text, lorem ipsum, empty pages or broken links.
  • A functional HTTPS checkout.
  • Prices, availability and product details that match the product data.

Business information and identity verification

Google requires basic, verifiable business and identity information: a short, professional business name, the address where the business is registered, and customer service details (a working URL with contact information, an email at your domain and a valid phone number). Google notes that formatting problems in this information can cause warnings, disapprovals or suspension. Some accounts must complete identity verification before a review, and Google asks for high-quality documents that match the account data.

The online store URL also needs to be verified and claimed. Google’s URL verification guide explains that one URL can be claimed by only one Merchant Center account; a Multi-Client Account is the supported way to share a claim between sub-accounts.

Data accuracy can also trigger suspension

Account issues aren’t only about policies on the website. Google says repeated price mismatches and too many incorrect availability values can lead to account suspension. If the account also has a large number of item-level issues, our product disapprovals service addresses those alongside the account review.

Requesting a review and cool-down periods

According to Google’s review documentation, you choose whether you fixed the issue or disagree with it, and reviews can take up to seven business days (Google’s Shopify-focused guide says reviews typically take three to seven business days). In some cases you may get only one chance to disagree.

After the second unsuccessful attempt, a cool-down of about a week may begin, and it can increase with later unsuccessful attempts. Google support can’t shorten it. The end date is shown in Products > Needs attention under “View setup and Policy issues”. If the review succeeds, approved products become eligible within about 24 hours.

Where to request the review

  • In Merchant Center: the “Review and fix” option on Home, the “Fix” button on an issue banner or Needs attention card, or “Request review” in Diagnostics.
  • On Shopify with the Google & YouTube app: Sales channels > Google & YouTube > Settings > Request re-review.

What we won’t do

We won’t promise reinstatement, because only Google can grant it. We won’t suggest opening a new Merchant Center account to get around a suspension, or changing business details to look like a different business; that conflicts with Google’s policies against bypassing review and can make the situation worse. Our work is limited to finding real problems, fixing them and presenting them honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Can you get my suspended Merchant Center account reinstated?

No one can guarantee that. Google makes the decision. We help identify the issues, fix them and prepare an accurate review request.

What’s the difference between a warning and a suspension?

A warning gives you a set period (7 or 28 days) to fix issues, with one courtesy review, while products may keep showing with limited visibility. A suspension stops products showing until a review succeeds.

How long does a suspension review take?

Google says reviews can take up to seven business days. Its Shopify-focused guide says three to seven business days is typical.

What is a Merchant Center cool-down period?

After unsuccessful review attempts, Google may disable review requests for about a week, longer after further unsuccessful attempts. Support can’t shorten it, and the end date is shown in the Needs attention area.

Should I create a new Merchant Center account?

No. Using a new account to get around a suspension can break Google’s policies. Fix the issues and request a review on the existing account.

Why was my account suspended without a warning?

Google can suspend accounts immediately for egregious violations. In other cases, a warning usually comes first.
