Product disapprovals
Fix Google Merchant Center Product Disapprovals
We find out why specific products are disapproved or limited, fix the cause on your website or in your product data, and request the right website check or review, so the same issue doesn’t come back with the next sync.

Why disapprovals happen
Disapproved Products Can’t Show Until the Cause Is Fixed
A product disapproval means Google has found a problem with a specific item: its data, its landing page or a policy. The product stops showing in the affected places until the problem is fixed and Google re-checks it.
Clicking a button rarely solves it. The cause is usually a mismatch between your product data and your website, a missing attribute, or a page Googlebot can’t reach.

What we check
Where Disapprovals Usually Start
Common causes we confirm before changing anything.
- Prices rendered by JavaScript after page load instead of in the server HTML
- Stock updates on the site that reach the feed hours later
- Branded products without a GTIN, or identifiers copied between products
- Product URLs on a domain other than the one claimed in Merchant Center
- Images with text overlays, logos, borders or a mismatched file extension
- No shipping service matching the product’s currency and target country
What we will never do
- Guarantee that every product will be approved
- Mark in-stock items out of stock to hide them
- Accept Google’s suggested values without checking the landing page
- Request reviews before the cause is actually fixed

How product disapprovals get fixed
Open Products > Needs attention in Merchant Center, group disapproved items by issue, and confirm the cause on a few sample landing pages. Fix it where the data comes from (store, integration or settings), then request a website check or review. Google re-crawls affected products over the following hours or days; approval depends on its review.
Start with the Needs attention tab
Google’s Needs attention tab shows summary cards for the highest-impact issues, a “Prioritized fixes” toggle (turn it off to see every issue), and a full list you can filter by click potential, issue, status and title, or download. Each issue has a details page with suggested actions and product samples, and “View history” shows how an item’s status has changed.
Google may suggest attribute values or offer automatic fixes. These can help, but Google notes that accepted suggestions override later changes from other methods such as file uploads, so we verify every suggested value against the landing page before accepting it.
The most common disapproval causes and how to confirm them
| Issue | How to confirm it | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Mismatched price | Compare the data source price with the server-rendered HTML and structured data, in the currency shown most prominently | Fix the source price or the page; avoid prices injected by JavaScript after load |
| Mismatched availability | Check the mismatch timestamp and current page status; the issue may already be resolved | Align update schedules or use automatic item updates for occasional gaps |
| Missing or incorrect GTIN | Check the manufacturer’s identifier and whether one is assigned at all | Add brand + GTIN or MPN; set identifier_exists false for one-of-a-kind or vintage items |
| Image issues | Open the image URL and look for overlays, placeholders, borders or a format mismatch | Replace the image, fix the extension or URL encoding, allow Googlebot-image |
| Product page unavailable | Test the URL with the URL Inspection Tool (desktop or smartphone) | Fix 404s, redirect chains, 5xx errors, DNS or robots.txt access |
| Missing shipping | Check shipping policies cover each target country and the product’s currency | Add or correct shipping policies or the item-level shipping attribute |
Price and availability mismatches
Googlebot reads the HTML your server returns and compares the price with your data. According to Google’s price mismatch guide, a price added with JavaScript after the page loads can trigger the error, and the HTML price must match exactly. Repeated mismatches can lead to account suspension, which is why we treat a growing mismatch count as urgent. After a fix, Google re-crawls disapproved products over the next few hours or days.
For availability mismatches, the common cause is timing: the site updates stock before the data source does. Scheduling data updates to coincide with site changes, or enabling automatic item updates, helps. Don’t set availability to out_of_stock to pause products; Google says to use pause for up to 14 days or excluded_destination for longer.
Identifiers and images
Google asks for brand plus GTIN or MPN under its unique product identifier rules. If a product has an assigned GTIN that you can’t find, leave the field blank rather than entering an internal SKU. For custom or handmade products with no official brand, Google says to use your store name as the brand with an MPN of your choice. Fixes can take some time to show in the Needs attention page.
Image disapprovals usually come from promotional elements (CTAs, prices, “New” text, watermarks, added logos), placeholder images, or one photo reused across distinct products. Google’s image requirements also note that robots.txt must allow Googlebot and Googlebot-image, and that robots.txt changes may take 24 to 48 hours to take effect.
Landing page unavailable
If the URL in link, link_template or mobile_link can’t be accessed, Google disables the product until it can. Google’s product page unavailable guide lists the usual errors:
- 404 Not Found pages for deleted or renamed products.
- Too many redirects (Google recommends no more than two).
- Connection failures or HTTP 5xx server errors.
- robots.txt that can’t be accessed, or a hostname that doesn’t resolve.
- URLs that don’t start with http:// or https://, use a domain other than the verified one, or contain unencoded symbols such as commas.
On Shopify, a common variant of this is a product URL domain that doesn’t match the domain the Google & YouTube app claimed. The domain in Merchant Center business info needs to match the one used in product URLs.
Shipping and returns
Shipping settings or the shipping attribute are required for products shown in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and many other countries. In Google’s shipping settings guide, items may be disapproved if no shipping service matches the product’s currency and target country, and shipping costs should be as close as possible to what the website charges. Return policies are optional in Merchant Center, but a clear return and refund policy on the website is part of Google’s website requirements.
Website checks, reviews and timing
After fixing a landing page or availability issue, you can request a website check. Google may take up to 12 hours to review the website, and you can’t submit another request during that time. Landing page errors should disappear within a couple of days once Google can crawl the page.
If you believe an issue is wrong, you can choose “I disagree with the issue” and request a review. Google’s review documentation says reviews take up to seven business days and that approved products become eligible within about 24 hours. There can be a limit on the number of reviews, so we only request one once the fix is in place and verified.
Preventing disapprovals from coming back
- Fix the platform, theme or integration setting that produced the bad value, not just the individual product.
- Re-check a sample of products after theme changes, app updates or pricing changes.
- Keep a change log so new issues can be tied to a specific change.
- Watch the Needs attention tab and item history weekly, especially mismatch counts.
If a growing number of issues has turned into an account-level warning, see our warnings and suspensions service. For a wider walkthrough, read our guide to product disapprovals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions.
Why are my products disapproved in Google Merchant Center?
Common causes are price or availability mismatches with the landing page, missing identifiers, image policy issues, landing pages Google can’t reach, and missing shipping information. The issue details in the Needs attention tab name the specific problem.
How long does it take for disapproved products to be approved again?
For price mismatches, Google re-crawls over the next few hours or days. A website check can take up to 12 hours, and a review up to seven business days. Approved products become eligible within about 24 hours.
Can I fix many products at once?
Yes. Google lets you download the affected products as a .csv, fix the source data and reupload. On Shopify or WooCommerce, fixing the store data or integration setting usually corrects them in bulk.
Should I accept Google’s suggested attribute values?
Check them against the landing page first. Accepted suggestions override later changes from other methods, such as file uploads.
Can product disapprovals lead to an account suspension?
They can. Google says repeated price mismatches or too many incorrect availability values can lead to account suspension.
Is it safe to set products to out of stock until they’re fixed?
No. Don’t mark in-stock products out of stock to hide them. Google recommends the pause attribute for up to 14 days, or excluded_destination for longer.
