Google Business Profile Optimization Within the Guidelines

We review and improve your Google Business Profile so it’s complete, accurate and compliant: name, categories, address or service area, hours, services, photos and review responses, following Google’s own guidelines rather than shortcuts.

Why your profile matters

Local Results Start With Your Business Profile

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance you can’t change; relevance and prominence depend heavily on how complete and accurate your profile is and how customers talk about you.

Google is also clear that you can’t pay for a better local ranking. The work is getting the details right and keeping them right.

  • Too many or loosely related categories
  • Missing, outdated or inaccurate hours and special hours
  • Service areas far beyond where you actually work

How Google ranks local results

Google says local results are mainly based on three factors: relevance (how well a profile matches the search), distance (how far the business is from the searcher’s location) and prominence (how well known the business is, including links and reviews). Complete, accurate, verified information supports relevance and prominence.

Google’s local ranking tips are practical: verify the business, keep information complete and accurate, keep regular and special hours current, respond to reviews, and add photos and videos. It also states plainly that there’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.

The guideline rules that matter most

Google’s Business Profile guidelines set firm rules. Breaking them can lead to suspension, so every change we suggest is checked against them.

FieldWhat the guidelines say
NameUse the real-world name on signage and stationery, without taglines, store codes, locations or phone numbers.
AddressA real location; no P.O. boxes, remote mailboxes or virtual offices.
Service areasService-area businesses hide their address; areas generally shouldn’t extend beyond about two hours’ drive.
CategoriesAs few as possible, the most specific ones, describing what the business is.
DescriptionNo links, promotions, prices or sales.
DuplicatesOne profile per location, with limited exceptions for departments and practitioners.

Reviews

Reviews contribute to prominence, and responding to them is one of Google’s own suggestions. We help you build a routine for asking customers for honest reviews and replying to them. We don’t write, buy or incentivize reviews, because that breaks Google’s policies and puts the profile at risk.

Your website still matters

The profile links to your website, and the details on both should match. Our local SEO service covers local landing pages, on-site business details and citations. Businesses with several branches should also see our multi-location SEO page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Can you guarantee a top spot in the map results?

No. Google says local ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence, and that nobody can pay for a better ranking.

Should I add keywords to my business name?

No. Google’s guidelines require your real-world name. Adding keywords or locations risks suspension.

I work from home. Can I have a profile?

Service-area businesses can have a profile with the address hidden and a defined service area, as long as they meet Google’s eligibility rules.

Can I use a virtual office address?

No. Google says virtual offices and P.O. boxes aren’t eligible addresses.

Do you need access to my profile?

For changes, yes, through a manager role you grant in your profile settings. You keep ownership. For an audit, we can review the public profile first.

What if my profile is suspended?

We can review the profile against the guidelines and help prepare a reinstatement request, but Google decides the outcome.
