What is content SEO?

Content With a Clear Job to Do

Content SEO is the planning and creation of content that matches what your audience searches for — and that connects that audience to your products or services.

Instead of publishing more, the goal is to publish the right pieces: each one targeting a distinct question, written with real expertise, and linked to the page that helps the reader take the next step.

Why publishing more content often doesn’t help

Content ranks when it is the most useful answer to a specific search. Publishing many similar articles usually creates pages that compete with each other, dilute internal links and are individually weaker than one strong page.

This is the most common problem we see in content audits: three or four posts targeting nearly the same question, none of them complete. Search engines then have to choose between them, and often choose none. The fix is usually consolidation — merging the best parts into one page, redirecting the others, and updating internal links.

SituationDecisionWhy
Two posts answer the same questionMerge into the stronger URL and redirect the otherAvoids self-competition and concentrates links
Post is accurate but outdatedRefresh with current information and a new review dateKeeps an established URL useful
Post has no search demand or business relevanceRetire (redirect or remove) after checking links and trafficReduces low-value pages
Strong post with no links to servicesAdd contextual links to the relevant service or productConnects readers to the next step
Important question with no pageBrief and write a new pageFills a real gap

How we build a topical map

A topical map groups the questions your customers ask into clusters. Each cluster has a pillar page — often a service or category page — and supporting articles that answer narrower questions. We build the map from the search results themselves, customer questions you hear in sales calls and support, public discussions, and the gaps we find in competing content.

  1. List the services or products that matter most commercially.
  2. Collect the questions people ask before, during and after buying.
  3. Group questions that share one intent; each group becomes one page.
  4. Decide which page in each cluster is the pillar and how the others link to it.
  5. Prioritize by business relevance and how realistically each page can compete.

Briefs and writing standards

Every new page gets a brief that defines its single search intent, the reader it serves, the questions it must answer, the sources to cite and the pages it should link to. We write to Google’s guidance on helpful, reliable, people-first content, and we follow its position on AI-generated content: what matters is quality and usefulness, and using automation mainly to manipulate rankings violates spam policies.

How content results are assessed

We track each cluster rather than single articles: impressions and clicks for the cluster’s queries in Search Console, the number of queries the cluster appears for, and visits from those pages to service pages and enquiry forms. New content typically takes months to settle, so we review clusters quarterly and refresh pages that have stalled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

How is content SEO different from content marketing?

Content marketing covers all content you create for your audience. Content SEO focuses on content that people find through search, planned around real search intent and connected to your services.

How many articles should we publish per month?

There is no ideal number. A smaller number of complete, accurate pages usually performs better than frequent thin posts. We set a pace your team can maintain to a high standard.

Do you use AI to write content?

We may use AI tools to assist research or drafting, but every piece is researched, written and edited by people and fact-checked before publishing. Google evaluates content on quality, not on how it was produced.

What is keyword cannibalization?

It happens when several of your pages target the same search intent and compete with each other. We identify it in the content audit and resolve it by merging, differentiating or re-linking pages.

Can you update our existing blog instead of writing new posts?

Yes. Refreshing and consolidating existing content is often the best first step, because those URLs may already have links and history.

Who reviews content in specialist industries?

For health, finance, legal and other high-stakes topics, your qualified experts review content before it is published. We don’t publish claims we can’t support.
